Learn to keep the books, not just balance them.
Ledgerline Academy teaches practical, job-ready bookkeeping and accounting skills through self-paced video lessons, real transaction files, and instructor feedback — no accounting degree required to start.
Built around the way bookkeepers actually work
Every lesson is anchored to a real workflow — recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and closing a period — rather than abstract theory.
Work real ledgers
Each module includes downloadable transaction sets so you reconcile accounts the same way you would for a client or employer.
Get your entries checked
Submit completed exercises and receive written feedback from a course instructor before moving to the next module.
Finish with proof of the work
Complete the final assessment to receive a Ledgerline Academy certificate of completion you can add to your résumé.
Three steps from enrollment to certificate
Choose a track
Start with Bookkeeping Fundamentals if you're new to the field, or move straight into Advanced Financial Reporting if you already handle basic entries.
Work through the modules
Watch short recorded lessons, complete the matching ledger exercise, and check your work against the provided answer key.
Submit your final project
Close out a full practice set for review. Once it's approved, your certificate of completion is issued.
Two tracks, one skill set built in order
Bookkeeping Fundamentals
Chart of accounts, double-entry recording, bank reconciliation, and monthly close — the core skills behind every set of books.
Advanced Financial Reporting
Build income statements and balance sheets, apply accrual adjustments, and prepare period-end reports clients can rely on.
"I'd done my own invoicing for years but never understood double-entry until I worked through the practice ledgers module by module. The feedback on my final project pointed out two habits I needed to fix." — Former student, small business owner
"The reconciliation exercises were the closest thing to real client files I found in any online course. Slower pace than I expected, in a good way — nothing felt rushed." — Former student, career changer

We teach bookkeeping the way it's actually practiced
Most introductory accounting courses start with theory: journals, ledgers, and trial balances explained in the abstract. We start with a shoebox of invoices and a bank statement, because that's what the job actually looks like.
Practice files instead of quizzes
Every module in our course tracks pairs a short recorded lesson with a downloadable transaction set. You record entries, reconcile the account, and check your work against a provided answer key before moving on.
We built the courses this way because bookkeeping is a hands-on skill. Watching someone else record a transaction doesn't teach you to catch a miscoded expense or spot a reconciling item — doing it yourself, repeatedly, does.
- ✓ Small business owners who currently manage their own books and want fewer errors
- ✓ Career changers preparing for an entry-level bookkeeping or accounts role
- ✓ Administrative or finance assistants who want to take on more bookkeeping responsibility
- ✓ Freelancers who want to understand their own invoices, expenses, and quarterly numbers
Three principles behind every course
Real transactions
Practice files are modeled on the kinds of entries a small business actually generates — invoices, receipts, payroll journals, and bank fees — not simplified textbook examples.
Reviewed work
Final projects are reviewed by a course instructor before a certificate is issued, so completion reflects work that was actually checked.
Plain explanations
Lessons are written and recorded in plain language first, with accounting terminology introduced once the underlying idea already makes sense.
What completing a course does — and doesn't — guarantee
Completing a Ledgerline Academy course gives you a certificate of completion and a portfolio of worked ledger exercises you can show an employer or client. It is a training program, not a licensing body: it does not grant a professional accounting credential, and we don't promise a specific job, salary, or client outcome as a result of taking a course.

Bookkeeping Fundamentals
Learn to record transactions correctly, reconcile a bank account, and close out a month — the core, repeatable skills behind every set of books.
Six modules, in the order you'll actually use them
| Module | Topic | What you practice |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Setting up a chart of accounts | Building an account structure for a small business |
| 02 | Double-entry recording | Journalizing sales, purchases, and expense transactions |
| 03 | Accounts receivable & payable | Tracking invoices, payments, and outstanding balances |
| 04 | Payroll basics | Recording wages, withholdings, and employer costs |
| 05 | Bank reconciliation | Matching the ledger to a real bank statement |
| 06 | Monthly close | Reviewing entries and preparing a trial balance |
How the course is structured
Each module opens with a 20–35 minute recorded lesson, followed by a downloadable practice ledger built around a fictional small business. You record the transactions yourself, then compare your work to the provided answer key.
The final module ends with a full practice set covering everything from the course. Submit it for instructor review, and once it's approved you'll receive your certificate of completion.
- ✓ 18 hours of recorded video lessons
- ✓ 6 downloadable practice ledger files
- ✓ Answer keys for every exercise
- ✓ One instructor-reviewed final project
- ✓ Certificate of completion
- ✓ Lifetime access to course materials
Prerequisites
No accounting background is required. You should be comfortable using spreadsheets and downloading files, since practice exercises are provided as spreadsheet templates.
Bookkeeping Fundamentals — $249
One-time payment, lifetime access, certificate included.
Advanced Financial Reporting
Move from recording transactions to producing the reports a business actually reads: income statements, balance sheets, and accrual-based period-end closes.
Seven modules, building toward a full report package
| Module | Topic | What you practice |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Accrual accounting principles | Recognizing revenue and expenses in the correct period |
| 02 | Adjusting entries | Prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and depreciation |
| 03 | Building an income statement | Classifying revenue and expense accounts correctly |
| 04 | Building a balance sheet | Organizing assets, liabilities, and equity |
| 05 | Cash flow basics | Distinguishing cash-basis from accrual-basis results |
| 06 | Inventory & cost of goods sold | Tracking inventory value and margin |
| 07 | Period-end close & reporting package | Assembling a complete report set for review |
How the course is structured
Each module builds on the practice files from the previous one, so by the later modules you're working with a ledger you've maintained across the whole course — closer to how a real set of books evolves month over month.
The final module asks you to assemble a complete reporting package: income statement, balance sheet, and supporting schedules. Submit it for instructor review to receive your certificate.

Questions we hear most often
If you don't find your answer here, our Contact page has direct ways to reach us.
Do I need any accounting background to start?
No. Bookkeeping Fundamentals assumes no prior experience. Advanced Financial Reporting assumes you can already record basic double-entry transactions — either from work experience or from completing Bookkeeping Fundamentals first.
How long do I have to complete a course?
Courses are self-paced with no enrollment deadline or expiry. You keep lifetime access to the video lessons and practice files once you've purchased a course.
Is the certificate a recognized accounting qualification?
The certificate of completion confirms you finished the course and had your final project reviewed by an instructor. It is not a government-issued license or a substitute for a professional accounting credential such as a CPA or chartered accountant designation.
What software do I need?
A spreadsheet application to open the practice ledger files (such as Excel, Google Sheets, or a compatible alternative) and a device that can play video. No specialized accounting software is required to complete the course.
Can I get a refund if the course isn't right for me?
Yes. You can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase, as long as you haven't yet submitted your final project for review. See our Terms of Service for the complete refund policy.
How do I get feedback on my practice exercises?
Each module includes an answer key so you can check your own work as you go. The final project in each course track is submitted separately and reviewed by a course instructor before your certificate is issued.
Do you offer the two courses as a bundle?
Yes. Both course tracks together are $499, a saving compared to purchasing them individually. Details are on the Pricing page.
How is my payment information handled?
Payments are processed through a third-party payment provider at checkout. We do not store your full card details on our own servers. See our Privacy Policy for more on how information is collected and used.
